AÍDA GÓMEZ

At the age of six, Aída Gómez began her dance studies, and at thirteen she began working as a professional dancer for the group “Los Goyescos.” She was accepted the same year to the National Classical Ballet School, under the direction of Victor Ullate.

In 1982, at the age of fourteen, she joined the National Ballet of Spain under the guidance of Antonio Ruiz Soler, where she continued until 1997, performing as a soloist and first dancer from the beginning. In 1985, Maria de Avila was named her principal dancer.

On the commemoration of X’s anniversary of the National Ballet of Spain, she danced as a partner to Antonio Gades in “Las Bodas de Sangre”. In 1996, she joined Joaquin Cortes’ company as a guest artist, performing on the most important European and American stages, including the Royal Albert Hall in London and Radio City in New York.

In 1997, she was called to collaborate and teach with Maurice Bejart and his Rudra school as well as Ballet du XXI-Siecle. In January 1998, she became the youngest Artistic Director in the history of the National Ballet of Spain.

In 2001, Aída started her own company and premiered “Salome”  under the direction of Carlos Saura. “Salome” was presented as a movie, directed by Carlos Saura. It received the award for “Best Artistic Contribution” at the Montreal International Film Festival and the Goya Award for Best Song.

In 2010, she created a choreography for the Spanish Pavilion at the Universal Exhibition in Shanghai and was appointed director of the Madrid International Dance Festival. In 2016, she was named Artistic Director of the Suma Flamenca Festival in the Community of Madrid. She continued teaching master classes at Madrid University and the Beijing Dance University.
